9 Fun Things to do with your Toddler
My daughter is officially a toddler. Chasing her around (anywhere) has become a basic part of my life. As summertime approaches, I want to keep her busy learning as much as she can about the wonderful, magical world around her. Toddlers are easy learners and they love to impress loved ones. Using a bit of creativity, here's my list of Fun Things to do with your Toddler:
Movies in the park - We recently took Nyaeli to see Cars 3 under the stars. When parks show kids movies, you can expect your toddler will make new friends, run around til its bedtime, and offer you some parent-to-parent social time. Search Google for movie locations and times.
Tour the Zoo - to make this extra fun and imaginative for our toddler, my family imitated animal sounds. My husband hoisted her on his shoulders so she could imagine life like the giraffes. Nyaeli's favorite were the monkeys "ooh ooh eeh eeh aah aah" Pack baby snacks and hand sanitizer.
Play Chase - Most toddlers are just learning the art of the chase. Their little legs power through even without a direction in mind. Nyaeli loves this game. She runs away and we run after her. Just be careful; toddlers move faster than they can keep up with which unfortunately leads to falls, trips, and spills. Encourage your toddler to play safely.
Splash Zones - Nyaeli calls them "bubbles"; which includes pools, fountains, lakes, a running garden hose, the ideas are endless. Theres really no need to spend money here, toddlers are impressed with water because it livens their senses of touch, temperature, and sight. Get creative but practice water safety.
Dollar Store Dash - surely you're tired of telling your toddler NOT to pull [insert object] off the [insert surface]. In Nyaeli's case its "Baby don't pull my plate off the table" Let your toddler's imagination go wild at the dollar store. Walk down the isles and let her examine whatever (kid friendly) objects catch her eye. The dollar store has great summer toys like bubbles, kites, and pool tubes.
Orchards & Farms - the farm is hard work but toddlers actually enjoy being apart of the hustle and bustle. Let your little one start their green thumb with little gardening gloves and tools. All kids are proud when they can make a difference and grow something themselves. Major plus - many orchards have small petting zoos. Get your overalls y'all!
Parade - Not willing to wait for the next star spangled parade? Make your own! Kitchen pots, pans, and trashcans make lots of noise. Create fun costumes with finger paints, hats, and tutus. Please record this spectacle and send to me! Id LOVE to cheer her on!
Under the Stars - Toddlers love doing 'at home' activities in new surroundings. Pitch a tent and make a comfy fort with all the pillows and blankets you can find. Im still waiting for our backyard to get finished but meanwhile, we stacked our couch pillows together with sheets. Don't forget the flashlight!
Shoots and Ladders - I couldn't write this list without including Nyaeli's all time favorite, the playground! Your toddler loves sharing her pint sized perspective of the park with you. Ride the slides and swings! Duck and crawl through as many obstacles as you can.
Which fun activities does your toddler enjoy? Be creative and play safe. Remember to pack sunscreen, bug spray, and a sun hat.
