Clothing Care

Every Shop the Kei garment is part of a beautiful, intentional process—from the hands of skilled makers to your wardrobe. Because our pieces are crafted in small batches (not mass-produced), they may have small variations that reflect the human touch behind them. These natural fabrics are made to breathe, drape beautifully, and be uniquely yours.

With the right care, your bohemian styles will last season after season. Here’s how to keep them looking and feeling their best—while caring for the Earth, too.

Before tossing your piece in the wash, check if it really needs it. Many garments just need a breath of fresh air. Hang them in a shaded, breezy spot to naturally freshen them up. It’s gentler on the fabric—and the planet.

🧵 2. Check the Care Tag

Always read the care tag inside your garment for specific instructions.

  • Hand wash is the gentlest method and best for most items.
  • If machine washing is allowed, use a delicate or gentle cycle
  • Place delicate items in a mesh lingerie bag to protect them.
  • Wash in cold water to preserve fabric and color.

🎨 3. Sort by Color

Dye may release in the first few washes—especially with rich tones like deep red, blue, or green. Always wash like colors together:

  • Whites with whites
  • Darks with darks
  • Reds with reds
  • Wash black separately

This keeps colors vibrant and prevents bleeding.

🌿 4. Choose Gentle Detergents

Use a high-quality, eco-friendly detergent. Skip the bleach and harsh stain removers. For white cotton basics that need extra care, use a garment-safe whitener if necessary (but never on delicate or dyed fabrics).

☀️ 5. Air Dry in the Shade

Avoid dryers—they can shrink, wear down, and fade your clothes. Instead, lay flat or hang your garment to air dry in a shaded spot. This method helps retain shape and keeps fabrics feeling soft and natural.

💫 Embrace the Boho Charm

Each item has its own story and soul—minor imperfections are part of what makes it special. With a little love and care, your clothing will age beautifully and stay with you on many adventures to come.
