Stitch by Stitch: Notes from September

September 2026

Some months ask you to do more. September asked me to come home.

September came and went like the fart we all needed.

After a summer of beautiful chaos (family trips, children home, work squeezed into whatever corners the day allowed), the house finally exhaled. The kids found their classroom rhythm. The mornings grew quiet again. And in that quiet, I found my way back to the hours I love most: early, before anyone wakes, when it's just me, my breath and the light coming through the window.

Meditation has been my truest ally this year. In September it became something more like a homecoming.

The kitchen, warming

There is a particular comfort in a pot that simmers all afternoon. This month our kitchen filled with stew and pasta sauce recipes, the kind you make in big batches and share without measuring. Nothing fancy. Just nourishment, made slowly, for the people I love.

A dress, stitch by stitch

I spent much of September sewing a dress for my cousin Jasmine to wear at her baby shower. I made it by hand, one stitch at a time, and I loved every minute of it.

Making something with my hands reminds me why I began this work at all. A garment can hold a feeling. This one held anticipation, tenderness and a whole lot of love for a little one not yet here. That is what I want everything we make to carry: not just fabric, but a feeling you can wear.

Coming back to my body

Not many people know this about me, but I was born double-jointed. I could fold my whole body like a pretzel. Over the years I stopped stretching, and I felt it.

Since my kundalini experience, I feel energy moving through me more than ever, and I've learned that stretching is how I release what gets stuck. So I've begun again. Slowly. With deep, intentional breaths. No goals, no timeline. Just a daily return.

Clearing the cobwebs

Behind the scenes, September felt like the business clearing out its cobwebs too. I organized, simplified and made room, so that what comes next could be built with intention instead of hurry. I want Shop the Kei to be a place I feel overjoyed to create in, and one that brings a little more beauty into the world.

What September taught me

Rest is not the opposite of creating. It's where creating begins.

As the leaves began to turn, a feeling settled in that I couldn't stop thinking about: that home isn't only a place. It's something we carry. That feeling became the name of our next chapter together, Home Within, a world of possibility and honored rest. I'll share more in October's journal.

Until then, my Pinterest boards are getting a cozy upgrade for the colder months. Come wander with me there. I pin new ideas daily.

With warmth and gratitude,
Kei
