Every Season Has Its Own Rhythm

Nature has never asked a flower to bloom in winter.

The tides never apologize for coming and going.

The moon never rushes toward fullness.

Every season carries its own rhythm, and everything living seems to trust it.

Everything except us.

We often believe that if we don't push harder, plan farther ahead, or hold everything together ourselves, life will somehow unravel.

I've certainly believed that.

Recently, I was reminded that perhaps life is far more capable than I give it credit for.

I knew without hesitation that my daughters would be attending day camp this week.

It wasn't wishful thinking.

It wasn't optimism.

It was one of those quiet moments when something inside simply knows.

The only problem was that I hadn't registered them yet.

The night before registration, I considered staying awake to complete all the paperwork.

Instead, I listened to something much quieter.

My body was tired.

Deeply tired.

So I went to bed.

I slept through the night more soundly than I had in days.

When I opened my eyes the next morning, reality arrived all at once.

Camp had already begun.

Registration still wasn't complete.

Medical forms still needed to be collected.

Paperwork still needed signatures.

For a brief moment, my mind wanted to replay every familiar story.

"You should have done this yesterday."

"Now you've made everything harder."

"You're behind."

Instead of staying there, I got up.

The girls and I moved quickly.

By three o'clock that afternoon we were picking up their universal health forms.

At three-thirty we pulled into the camp parking lot.

I signed the last of the paperwork, took a quick tour, and before I knew it, both girls were running toward their new adventure with enormous smiles on their faces.

Watching them laugh, something inside me became very quiet.

The chaos I had imagined wasn't chaos at all.

It was simply the path life had taken.

In Creating Affluence, Deepak Chopra writes,

"The universe is one of perfect order, even though on the surface it may appear chaotic. Even though the surface implies chaos, deep within the chaos is an order."

Standing there in the afternoon sunshine, those words no longer felt like philosophy.

They felt like experience.

The night before, I had honored something I often ignore.

My own need for rest.

The next day, I honored what needed to be done.

Neither canceled the other.

Perhaps that is what trust looks like.

Not expecting life to unfold exactly as we imagined.

But believing that even when the path twists unexpectedly, there may be an intelligence quietly guiding us forward.

I've begun to notice how often I mistake urgency for importance.

How often I assume that because something feels rushed, something must have gone wrong.

Yet nature doesn't rush.

A seed beneath the soil isn't late.

A sunrise never arrives too early.

Even a river appears to wander, though it always finds its way to the sea.

What if our lives unfold with that same hidden wisdom?

What if the unexpected detours are not evidence that we've lost our way, but invitations to experience life differently than we planned?

Looking back, I don't remember the stress of gathering paperwork.

I remember my daughters' excitement.

I remember watching them disappear into camp with joyful confidence.

I remember the surprising peace that settled over me as I realized everything had happened exactly as it needed to.

Not because I controlled every detail.

But because I allowed myself to participate without believing I had to control the outcome.

Kei writes in her yellow journal on the beach

Every season has its own rhythm.

Summer asks different things of me than spring.

Motherhood asks different things of me than entrepreneurship.

Some days require movement.

Others require stillness.

Wisdom isn't knowing which season comes next.

It's recognizing the one we're already standing in.

Perhaps the universe has been keeping perfect time all along.

Perhaps the only rhythm I needed to rediscover was my own.

A Moment of Radiance

Think back to a moment that once felt chaotic.

Now ask yourself:

What unexpected gift emerged because events unfolded differently than I had planned?

Sometimes the order we're searching for isn't visible until we've walked completely through the experience.

Perhaps life isn't asking us to control every season.

Perhaps it's inviting us to trust the rhythm already carrying us forward.
